As local residents continue to raise concerns about the chaotic traffic diversions, your local Conservative candidate, Rob Coleman, has been working hard with members of the community to lobby the council and improve the current traffic diversions in Ladywood residential areas.
Many residents living just off Broad Street have been adversely affected by this problem and have spoken of how some streets have been turned into ‘rat runs’ by speeding motorists attempting to avoid the jams.
The residents of Sheepcote Street are among the worst affected, with several bus routes and HGVs being rerouted along the residential street due to the roadworks at Paradise Circus and on Broad Street. The weight of some of these vehicles has now caused considerable damage to the road surface and there have been complaints that the constant traffic disturbs homes late into the night.
For that reason, Rob has been working tirelessly with local residents and has proposed a comprehensive solution to the problems of speeding and congestion.
Rob said: ‘I’m working to see a sensible solution implemented in order to solve the problems caused by the traffic diversions off Broad Street’.
‘I have set up a petition to demand that Birmingham Council stop ignoring local concerns and makes Sheepcote Street a temporary 20mph zone until the roadworks are lifted later this year. I believe that this will help tackle the problems associated with speeding. I have further asked that a traffic survey is carried out to investigate the damage being done to the road by heavy vehicles to see if the diversion needs amending to ban vehicles over a certain weight from using Sheepcote Street and being diverted via the ring road’.
‘Local people who work hard and pay their council tax deserve to have their voices heard and our community needs a comprehensive solution to this problem. I will work hard to deliver it’.
