Uninsured drivers are a serious danger on our roads, with 1 million uninsured vehicles on the roads over the course of a year. This results in someone in the UK being involved in a collision with an uninsured or hit-and-run driver every 20 minutes. That's why we've been calling for action to help protect the public from them - as in our amendment at September's Full Council which Labour voted down.
Four of the top 15 postcodes in the UK for uninsured drivers are within Birmingham. There needs to be an immediate crackdown, particularly in those four postcodes, and we call on the City Council to work with the police to achieve this.
