Yet again this Labour administration is found wanting with residents living in the City. A recent report has highlighted that 45% of the exempt accommodation in the City falls below the standards set down in the City’s Preferred Providers List (PPL)
Cllr Ken Wood (Con, Sutton Walmley & Minworth), Shadow Cabinet Member for Housing and Homelessness stated
It is extremely alarming that providers accounting for nearly 45% of the City’s Exempt Accommodation, having been assessed, have failed to meet the standards required of the Quality Standards or had their Award deferred due to a Regulator of Social Housing regulatory notice.
The report continues that the PPL currently consists of 30 providers but they only account for approximately 12% of the number of units in the City, which leaves 43% still to engage with the quality system.
Cllr Wood added
We all know there are issues with poorly run exempt accommodation in the city. Those living in them require support for a variety of reasons and the City is failing to ensure that those operating them are providing that badly needed support and accommodation fit for purpose“ Much has been achieved using government grants to establish and put in place the Quality Standards but The Labour Administration need to do more to ensure that all EA providers are providing not only clean and safe places to live, but that those properties are fit to live in.
