Leader of the Conservative Group Cllr Robert Alden (Erdington Ward) will present a budget amendment to the City Council tomorrow which will set out a different path for Birmingham City Council.
The Conservative amendment which will make more than £200m worth of changes to the City Council budget over the next four years, will be the most comprehensive alternative vision the Council chamber has even been presented with. Framed around the need to become a City of aspiration, the budget will provide a wide ranging plan to help residents from preschool, through to employment.
Cllr Robert Alden said "by putting forward modernised and innovative ways to deliver services we are able to demonstrate how Birmingham would look under a Conservative Council. Our vision will enable us to put £2million back into Children Centres, helping the next generation right at the start of life. We will outline a plan to be able to transform our failing children services. Our amendment to the budget will provide support for start up business and help people wanting to become self employed".
The Conservative amendment will also see a transformation of our waste services by providing additional resources for street cleaning, cancelling the garden tax and reinstating bulky waste collections. Labour plans to build on parks and playing fields will be cancelled and children play areas retained by the Conservative amendment.
Robert added "since the General Election the Conservative Government has given Birmingham an extra £163 million over the next four years. This means the Council has the chance to offer a real path to prosperity and world class services in 2020 and beyond. The talk of doom and gloom by the Council shows how they are incapable of dealing with a £3billion budget, our plan shows how the future can be different. How Birmingham can once again have the cleanest streets in the Country, how Children growing up in our City can and should have the best opportunity to succeed. Our plans would make Birmingham a city of aspiration and opportunity for all."
