On Friday July 26th, Erdington Conservatives chose local Councillor and resident Robert Alden to be the Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Erdington & Kingstanding at the next General Election, due in 2015.
Cllr Alden fought the Erdington seat at the 2010 General Election, achieving a swing of 10.4%, one of the largest in the country, and turning the previously safe Labour constituency into a key marginal seat at the next election.
Cllr Robert Alden said, “I am incredibly proud to have been selected by residents to stand again in Erdington and Kingstanding at the next General Election. Erdington is one of the best places in the country and deserves an MP who understands Birmingham, cares about local people and puts the area first.”
Robert added, “Residents will have a clear choice at the next General Election. The current Labour MP was a London based Union baron with no connection at all to the area prior to being selected in 2010. Indeed he had scoured the country looking for a seat to fight before eventually being picked by the Erdington Labour Party.”
“In contrast, I am a born and bred Brummie, an Erdington resident and an Erdington Councillor since 2006, with a clear track record of working hard for local people and delivering for our area. For the first time in years, the Conservatives have a real chance of winning the Erdington Parliamentary seat, and I shall be working as hard as I can between now and 2015 to ensure that we do.”
