Vandals have been slammed for recently damaging the fountain on the pedestrianised area of Erdington High Street. This week has seen vandals damage the edge of some of the steps around the fountain, on which water flows down, and exposed some of the pipe work. The fountain is now currently not working and is at increased risk of further damage.
Cllr Robert Alden said, "This kind of petty behaviour by a small minority ruins things for everyone. It is totally unacceptable for people to think it is ok to cause this kind of damage. We have reported it to the Council for urgent repair but this will of course cost the Council (and therefore the taxpayer) a lot of money to be fixed. If anyone knows of any information relating to the damage that occurred then please do let either ourselves know or contact the local police".
Cllr Alden added "I just hope we can get it fixed as soon as possible so that it can be put back to the use for which it was built. For it to have now been vandalised in this way is heart breaking".
Cllr Alden and Cllr Bob Beauchamp have previously worked with the City Council to have a special coating painted on it so any paint automatically washed off when the fountain was turned on.
